Sue K (Kawczynski in long
form) is a freelance professional horse photographer.
Sue's love affair with horses began in childhood. Her interest
in horse racing started in 1973, when the great flashy chestnut,
Secretariat, became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years
by winning the Belmont Stakes — destroying
the field by 31 lengths in world record time.
Photographic interests began with her first
quasi-pro camera about 20 years ago. Sue started
her road to professional horse photography taking photos
at Saratoga, where her father had brought her and caught
the bug for immortalizing horses on film.
Professionally, Sue worked first in music
(she has a BA in music from Lehman College at CUNY). Initially,
her music interests curtailed her focus on photography. However,
after taking pictures for years, she realized that photography
had turned into more than a hobby. She took stock (pun intended)
and knew it was time to pursue professional horse photography
as a career.
Sue currently shoots American racing
for individuals and periodicals such as The
Irish Field, a horse racing publication
based in Dublin, Ireland. Three of Sue's photos are featured
in the 2007
Final Turn Calendar. Sue's photograph of a finish
line battle appears in the book, “Optimal
Images.” Sue
has also created photos used by European sales companies
and breeders, such as Le Mezeray (France), Argance
(France) and Tattersalls (Great Britain). Perhaps
because of her last name's roots and with the internet's
ability to easily continent hop, fans as far away
as Croatia have found her work.
Future plans include continuing to refine her
art and bringing pleasure to horseracing fans worldwide by capturing
brilliant moments in the lives of horses. |
