Sue “K” Kawczynski is a freelance photographer, specializing in horse racing. Sue's love affair with horses began in childhood, and naturally led her to horse racing when in 1973, the great flashy chestnut, the immortal Secretariat, became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years by winning the Belmont Stakes — destroying the field by 31 lengths in world record time.
Photographic interests began with her first quasi-pro camera about 30 years ago, photographing plays in the Theatre Department in Herbert H. Lehman College, as well as musicians, bands, and orchestras. Sue started her road to horse photography taking photos at Saratoga, where her father had brought her every summer, and she caught the bug for immortalizing horses on film.
Sue currently works for Eclipse Sportswire (www.eclipsesportswire.com
), where her work is currently seen in Horse Racing Nation and America’s Best Racing, and her work has been seen in SI.com, Louisville Courier-Journal, Thoroughbred Times, The Irish Field, The Racing Post (UK), Japanese Racing Association Magazine (JRA), CBS.com, ESPN.com, and Stride Magazine. Sue’s photos have also been used by European sales companies and breeders, such as Le Mezeray (France), Argance (France) and Tattersalls (Great Britain).
Professionally, Sue worked first in music (she has a BA in music from Lehman College at CUNY), and still performs in working bands today. It has also lead her to photograph bands and musicians as well.
